Pound shop Goodies
14/03/2014
I often shy away from the paper sets at the pound shop, although I buy glue and double sided tape from there, which is excellent, and recently used some ready glued embellishments, that are some of the best I've handled. So I thought I should give these paper sets a fair shot, and buy a pack for a fair review.
Obviously one of the plus points is the price, £1 sterling.
The pack contains:
one 30cmsquared paper
one 28cmsquared paper
one 25.5cmsquared paper
one 23cm squared paper
nine decoupaged toppers with foam sticky backs,on acetate.
two 50cm lengths of organza ribbon
The first thing to note is that the toppers have 2 pieces of raised foam on the back, one small bit has been used to stick to the acetate, and the other still with its paper back waiting to be used. This should mean that they leave the acetate clean and easy to reuse, and that the sticky pad will retain its glue for longer. The paper, although not my usual taste in design, will make pretty bright cards, or scrapbook pages, and it seems to be of a good quality to handle glue, which I think is the most important thing.
I think for the most part this set is good quality, and if funds are low, and you feel the need for a treat this should satisfy!
I will go away and make something with this and add the photo later.

I created a mini book, and yes I used a glue stick which worked really well. I still have 6 embellishments, and some ribbon left.

New Bernina......app.
I Just received an email telling me about the new Bernina sewing machine, I have a soft spot for this machine, as it is the make my Grandma had. I don't think it resembled this one though. I was particularly struck by the computer function that allows you to design your own stitches! I'm sure that used to be called embroidery.
Anyway while I was looking at machines I can never afford, I noticed that there is a Bernina app, so now you can look at all the lovely new things from Bernina on the move, and even make a wish list. Its very easy to navigate round, so that when you win the lottery you can press the send button.
I have to point out here, that I didn't actually find the price, I resorted to a saying I learn't from my Grandma, If you have to ask the price you can't afford!
However Bernina, If you want to give me a machine to review for you, I'm more than Happy to give it a full workout, and review.

I thought I was about time that I added a review, and the opportunity appeared this weekend, with the opening of a new craft shop, in my local area.
"Silk n' Threads"
The owners of this new shop, are very friendly, and have made a spacious craft shop, that in it's layout is very different from any other I've been in (and I've visited a fair few) around the walls that are painted a lovely duck egg blue, are stylish shelves filled mostly with designer yarns, and in the centre there is a large comfy sofa, so that the over all feeling is of open space.
The yarns, including many wools, are at the top end of the price range for the craft, but are beautiful, and some of the wools even specify the type of sheep (blue face Leicester, was the one I noted) My discussion with the owners, led me to understand that they are hoping to support local Crafters, and I hope this will include some locally spun and dyed wool, as I think this would compliment their range nicely, and would give a nice local twist to the shop.
They also sell, some items for decoupatch, cross stich kits, and will have a full range of DMC threads.
The owners have such a fabulous positive outlook, that will hopefully add to the local economy in a very positive way. I hope they do very well.
Good Luck!
