I haven't blogged for a little while, so I thought I'd better add something.
I have just taken the second lot of glazed fired items out of my Kiln. I was very pleased with the overall results, and although I need to buy/ make some more exciting pour on glazes I think there is a general improvement in the outcome of this batch. I did experiment a little with Lusters.
My mum very kindly bought me some lusters for Christmas last year, and I was very excited as they promised an array of nice shiny colour. When I started to read about them, I was disappointed to read that I had to use them on top of another glaze at an earthenware glazing temperature, which since I don't use earthenware would be more than a little awkward.
Then as an aside I found a comment in one book that you can try lusters on bisque stoneware for a different effect.
So I tried them out, on little bits that If they worked would make great Christmas ornaments, and if it burnt off wouldn't be a disaster. Well I have some nice ornaments to sell at the next craft fair. The colours are a little different, the green is more brown, but the black, blue, and red are lovely. I have lots of plans for making use of these in the next Glaze fire I do, and I hope my customers like them too.
BTW I fired at 1240 degrees C. not sure what cone that is.
